JANE AUSTEN short story contest
description:
IES LA FLOTA holds the JANE AUSTEN writing contest. The yearly
essay writing contest is open to all the students, divided into three groups
according to their level of English proficiency.
The winners will be awarded a prize, and the best stories will be published
on the Department Web site. This contest is intended to develop and
reinforce the writing skills and is part of the Language Portfolio
implementation programme carried out by IES LA FLOTA
Topics
The topics and genre used by the students will be their own
choise:
1st and 2nd ESO : Any topic or genre
3rd and 4rd ESO : Any topic or genre
1st and 2nd Bachiller: Any topic or genre

Rights to the story remain the property of the author.
All works must be original and unaided.
Works may not have been previously published in professional
media.
To be eligible, entries must be from 500 to 600 words in
length. Papers shall be written in black colour only (Times New
Roman or Arial typeface). 12 point font size.
All entries must be double spaced, with numbered pages in one of
the following formats. All other formats will be disqualified.

Each entry must have a cover page with the title of the work, the
author's name, group. Every subsequent page must carry the title
and a page number, but NOT the author's name (to facilitate fair
judging).

Each entrant may submit only one short story per contest.
8.
All entries are final. No revisions are accepted.
9.
The decisions of the judges are entirely their own, and are final.
10.
The winner and runner-up story of each level will be posted on the
schools Facebook page.
11.
Photographs of the winners together with their names, ages and groups
may be used in the Department Web page where the parents or
guardians have given their consents.
12.
At the discretion of the judges, all well written short stories may be
published on the Web site.
Selection of winners
Winning stories will be selected by English department teachers based on,
among other factors:
(a) depth and creativity
(b) organization and writing style
(c) originality
(d) spelling, grammar and vocabulary
(e) neatness
PRIZES
Prizes will be awarded for the winning paper (1st prize), first runner-up(2nd
prize) and second runner-up (3rd prize) for each level of English
proficiency.
Competition winners will be notified of their results by their English teachers
in June.
Deadline for submission
All papers submitted for the Competition must be received online by the
English Department by no later than 29th May, 2015
