Grading will be based on tests/projects (40%), quizzes (20%), classwork (15%), homework (15%), and participation (10%). Tests will be given at the end of chapters and units, while quizzes may be announced or unannounced. Students will have daily homework assignments and late work will not be accepted without an excused absence. Students are responsible for making up missed work within two days of returning and tests will be made up on the day of return. Lockers can only be accessed before first bell, during lunch, and at dismissal. All classroom materials and medical allergies must be reported to the teacher.

Classroom Procedures

Middle School Directives


Grading:
Grading will encompass many factors which will include:

Tests/Projects (40%)
Tests and projects will be announced.
Tests will be administered at the end of a chapter or unit, and will be measured on a scale of 0-100
unless otherwise specified.
Projects will follow particular guidelines and will be measured by a rubric.
Projects and reports must follow the specified guidelines and due dates.
Students are encouraged to be creative, but must meet specified criteria.
Rubrics will be provided when an assignment or project is assigned.
Quizzes (20%)
Quizzes will be announced and unannounced.
Class-work (15%)
Class work and homework assignments will be scored using specified rubrics.
Rubrics will be provided when an assignment or project is assigned.
There is a zero tolerance policy for cheating. Students who are caught cheating will receive a
grade of zero for the assignment.
Homework (15%)
Homework is due on the following day unless otherwise specified.
There is a zero tolerance policy for cheating. Students who are caught cheating will receive a
grade of zero for the assignment.
Participation (10%)
Participation is encouraged as to demonstrate understanding. This can take the form of accurate
completion of class work and homework assignments, engaged interaction during group work, and
open discussion during lectures.

*Extra Credit will not be provided.


Quizzes/Tests:

Tests will be administered following the end of each chapter or unit.


Students will be notified three days in advance that a test will be taking place, as well as the date on which it
will be administered.
If a chapter or unit is extensive, quizzes will be administered throughout the chapter or unit in an effort to
promote coordinated study as well as mastery of skill.
A summative test will take place at the conclusion of the lesson, using quizzes as review.

Homework:

Students will have written and/or study assignments every night.


The homework, as well as special reminders, is provided on the board daily so that students have ample
time to copy it.
Homework will be counted towards a grade, unless otherwise specified.
Late homework, projects, or assignments will not be accepted, unless an extenuating circumstance has
occurred.
A missing homework form will be completed for all missed homework.
Three consecutive missed homework assignments will result in a phone call home.
Forgetting books is not a circumstance as we strive to have students learn responsibility.

Missed Homework/Assignments/Tests:

Students who are absent are responsible for the work they have missed.
Missed homework is to be completed within two days of returning to school.
Tests and quizzes will be made-up the day the student returns.
Arrangements can be made for students who have consecutive absences due to extenuating
circumstances. Once lessons have been made-up, a student will then be expected to take a
make-up test for any assessments that they may have missed.
Tests and quizzes will be returned to be reviewed and signed by a parent/guardian once all
students have taken the test or quiz.

Locker Policy:

Students can go to their lockers during the following times:


Before the first bell during morning arrival.
Lunch
Dismissal

Supplies:

All classroom materials must be brought to class each day unless otherwise specified.

Allergies:

The teacher, as well as the school, should be notified of all allergies.


*Proper procedures will be carried out by the school nurse as per the schools policies and directives.
