Materials: PowerPoint presentation, white board, markers, paper, boxes, cups, toy animals, exercise sheets.
Objectives:
To ensure that elementary level students are able to:
1. Use simple comparative adjectives effectively.
2. Use the correct endings for the simple comparative form.
3. To encourage student participation and pair work.

Teacher Activity
T will play a game Spot the difference with the students.
T will take two pieces of paper, one smaller than the other. T will ask Ss about the differences between the two pieces of
paper.
T will then hold two cups of different sizes. T will elicit the differences between the two cups from the students.
T will present two differently sized boxes and will elicit the differences between the two boxes.
T will hold up two pieces of paper that are the same size but one paper will be brighter than the other. T will ask students to
spot the difference and answer.
T will hold two toy animals of different sizes and elicit the differences from the students.
Next, T will write the word Compare on the board and engage Ss in a brainstorm based on the Ss ideas.
T will ask the following questions at the end of the brainstorm:
1. What do you think compare means?
2. Can you compare between two things?
3. What about more than two things?

Next, T will chorally drill each comparative adjective to avoid mispronunciation of the er ending.

T will instruct Ss to work individually and write down six different comparison sentences while using adjective in the
comparative form. Ss will have seven minutes to finish the activity.
T will provide an example:
The board is bigger than the table.
Once the activity will start, T will constantly remind Ss of the remaining time.
At the end of the seven minutes, T will select three Ss to read out their comparative sentence to the class.

T will explain the instructions as the following:
Ss will form pairs and write a total of ten comparisons between them and their respective partner while using the
comparative form of the adjective.
Ss will have 10 minutes to complete and present their role play.
T will ask ICQs to ensure if the students are on track:
How many people in one group?
What are we doing?
How many minutes do we have?

T will hand out one exercise paper to each Ss. Each paper will contain three gap fill sentences. Ss will be instructed to fill
out the gap fill exercise while using the hints at the provided by the picture at the end of each sentence.
I.e. The boy is (taller) than the girl.
T will choose three students to read out their answers to the class.
