Homework Helpers

Phonics
These are phonics homework helpers that can be sent home
for parents to use when helping their children at home.
These homework helpers include all of the sounds of the
alphabet with pictures, 4 consonant digraphs,
all of the long vowel sounds with a silent e, all of the
long vowel sounds when two vowels work together,
the rules for adding ed/ing endings, ng/le nasals, the
rules for using y as a vowel, r controlled
vowels, vowel diphthongs (oi, oy, ou, ow), vowel digraphs
(oo, aw, all), and soft c/g. It now also includes a
page describing all of the decoding strategies for
children to use!

Long Vowels When two vowels work together,


you hear the first vowel. Buddy words!

Endings ed, ing


Add -ed to make the word past tense (I already did it).
Add -ing to make the word present tense (I am doing it now).
CVCC If there are two consonants after the short vowel, then you just add the ending.
CVC If there is only one consonant after the vowel, then you double the consonant before adding the ending.
