Lame and Particle 2D 3D 1

This document contains multiple physics problems involving systems of objects suspended by cords or wires. It asks the reader to determine properties like required cord lengths, tensions in different cables, masses of objects, and maximum supported weights to ensure tensions do not exceed given values.

Determine the required length of cord AC in

Fig. 38 a so that the 8-kg lamp can be

suspended in the position shown. The
undeformed length of springAB is l_AB = 0.4
m, and the spring has a stiffness of kAB = 300
N/m.
(TAB = kABsAB;)

Determine the tension in cables AB , BC , and CD ,

necessary to support the 10-kg and 15-kg traffic lights
at B and C , respectively. Also, find the angle u.

If the mass of cylinder C is 40 kg, determine the mass of

cylinder A in order to hold the assembly in the position
shown.

The gusset plate is subjected to the forces of four

members. Determine the force in member B and its
proper orientation u for equilibrium. The forces are
concurrent at point O . Take F = 12 kN .

Determine the maximum mass of the lamp that

the cord system can support so that no single
cord develops a tension exceeding 400 N.

Determine the maximum weight of the bucket that the wire system can support so that no single wire
develops a tension exceeding 100 lb.
