First Month of School
We have had a smooth first month of school filled with making new friends and getting used to our
kindergarten routines. We have read some new stories like the Kissing Hand, Kindergarten Rocks as well
as some old favorites such as Caps For Sale. Our class has also been learning some new songs like
Penguins Attention, Taxi and There Was One Little Bird. Our Choice Time has begun and we are spending
each day in centers, some have participated in the math center, art center, light box, pretend center,
play dough and the writing and drawing center.

Arrival
School begins at 8:30 each morning. Arrival in the morning has been very smooth I want to thank
everyone for their assistance. Ive had some parents ask, Do I have to stay and help them with the
activity at the table? and my answer is... Once your child has completed the routine of putting their
belongings away, and are comfortable with the activity at their work seat, you can say good-bye. You
dont have to wait for me to flick the lights.

Dismissal
I have to say, it is becoming smoother. Im learning your faces, so I dont have to wait for you to tell me
who youre there to pick up. If you can stand by our class window side it also a little easier to see you
from inside the classroom. If you are late picking up your child, I will have to take your child to the lobby
and leave them there with a school aide. I do have commitments after school and Im not always available
to keep your child in the class while waiting for your arrival.

Lunch
The children have transitioned well into eating in our school cafeteria. If your child will be eating school
lunch, please indicate this on our monthly Lunch Form and sign up on line to pay for lunch at
(mylunchmoney.com). See me if youre not sure where to sign up on the lunch form. Volunteers are also
needed during our lunchtime to assist the children as they are eating.

If you are available and interested, please let me know.

Grade Recess
Kindergarten Children have whats known as a Grade Recess every third Wednesday. It is a time when
the Kindergarten Teachers meet for a Grade Meeting with Administration to plan and develop curriculum
and address concerns and issues among our grades. The kindergarten children are all in the backyard
during this 45-minute time period at the end of the day. If you are available to volunteer your time to
help supervise, it would be greatly appreciated. The next grade meeting/grade recess is October 15
beginning at 1:50pm. If youre able to volunteer, please let me know and I will inform the assisting staff
members.

Our First Family Friday Oct. 3

Our school celebrates families by inviting family members to spend extra time in your childs class to see
and participate in some of their school activities. Its every first Friday of the month and begins at
arrival time and ends around 9:10am. Different activities will be planned for each month.
For our first Family Friday, I would like to invite you to a Family Breakfast. (There will be a sign-up sheet
to donate breakfast items posted by the Red Door). This could be a time to get to know one another,
meet your childs new friends and share a book with your child. I will have the children to end our
celebration with a couple of songs they have learned. Our Principal, Liz Phillips, will also make an
announcement thanking you for coming.
Im look forward to your participation.

Curriculum Conferences

K-114s Curriculum Conferences have been rescheduled for Wednesday, October 8th from 6:00 -7:30 pm.
At that time, I will be discussing our curriculum plans for the year and share some of the many different
school and class activities that we will have throughout our school year. I will also be able to answer your
questions related to curriculum and developmentally appropriate practice. I hope that everyone will be
able to attend.

Walking Trip to Prospect Park

I am very excited to begin our yearlong study of a tree in Prospect Park. We will take our first walking
trip to Prospect Park to locate our class tree on Wednesday, October 15 (from 8:50-10:30). If you are
able to escort our class, please sign up on the sign-up sheet located by the red door. While at the tree,
we will talk about how scientist observe carefully and notice lots of details. Our study will continue
throughout the year. We will take a monthly walk to our tree giving the children the opportunity to focus
on different aspects of the tree and notice the changes throughout the different seasons
Thank you all for helping out with so many of the items on our K-114 Amazon Wish List. I really
appreciate your donations and support! Once again, a special thank you to Laura (Wyatts mom) for
helping us make the email transition!
I am very excited about getting to know you and Im looking forward to facilitating your childs growth as
a learner.

My Best,
Marie
