Editorial Writing Tips
Editorial Writing Tips
A. Parts of an Editorial
1. Title ( What is the article about?)
1. News Peg / Introduction - a part where the writer informs the readers about an issue.
2. Body - is the part containing the reaction of the writer on the issue he wrote on the news
peg.
3. Conclusion- the writer here will have his final stand on the issue, general idea of what has
written in the Body.
B. Tips
1. Make sure that the TITLE ITSELF ALREADY HAS AN IMPACT.
2. Read about the issues. Make sure you are aware of the current issues. They can be
watched on TV.
3. Listen to the lecturer/ judge to know his/ her preference.
- It depends upon the lecturer or judge if he/ she prefers to use the FIRST PERSON
PRONOUNS such as I, Me, etc. Some like it but some dont, so, be sure of what they prefer.
You will hear it from the speaker/ lecturer.
- Another case is about asking questions to the reader. It is an effective way to make
them think and have an idea of their own but, some lecturers wont let you do it. However, some
lecturers prefer this strategy.
- To make it short, your work will be judged good or nice according to the judges/
lecturers preference because in this activity, they will be your readers.
4. Avoid the use of foul, libellous and unfamiliar words.
