NOVEMBER!
What happened in the
month of October?!!
We had lots of fun during the month of October!
The students explored pumpkins and even made
mini pumpkin pies! We completed a frankenworm
experiment and used pasta noodles to help create
texture in our art. The students have planted
pumpkin seeds and, fingers crossed, are hopefully
going to grow pumpkins! We also investigated a
variety of gourds and squashes at our science
center. The students have continued to
learn/practice their letter sounds and have created
some amazing writing that is up on our Writing
Monstars Wall!!!

Levelled Readers!!
I have had a few parents asking when the little
leveled readers will be going home. I am happy to
say we are starting to send those on Monday! The
school finally has enough for all our Kindergartens
so please watch for them in their mailbags. These
are short stories based on where their assessment
showed they are independent at reading or for the
JKs a level A. Please make sure to send these back
to school each day. These will be changed on
Mondays and Thursdays. Strategies to remember
with your child are: Word Stretching have them
say sounds that they know from a word then help
them put all the sounds together. For the SKs they
should also be looking for their double letter
sounds. Sight Words have your child identify any
of our sightwords or help them identify them.
Finger Pointing As your child reads the story
make sure they point to each word as they go
through it. Pictures youre your child use the
picture to figure out a word. This is one of the best
beginning strategies for children. Comprehension
Just as important as decoding for reading its
important to ask your child questions about the
stories they read.

Reminders:

Whats up for November?

So far November has us investigating what items will
sink or float. The students are enjoying making
predictions and trying to figure out what is the
reasoning behind their outcome. We are exploring a
light table and creating structures on it to share with
the class. The Jk/SKs are busy creating their
Flanders Field artwork to put up for the
Remembrance Day assembly (where we are also
performing a poem we created together!!).
November has already introduced to us the sight
word see which can be found in their orange
duotang for any additional practice ;) The students
are having fun using manipulatives to measure
around the room, including their own classmates!
They are enjoying a challenge of using lego to NOT
build! And the students have decided a hair salon
needs to be in our classroom! Cant wait to see
where else November takes us!

1. Outdoor Clothing the weather is cold and

unless it is really raining the students are outside
for recess. Please make sure to have an appropriate
jacket, boots, gloves and hats available to your
child. Sometimes the weather gets colder as the day
goes on.
2. Extra Clothes if your child is bringing wet
clothes home please send a few extra pairs to have
on hand. This is greatly appreciated.
3. Library Please remember that library is
Thursdays and for your child to have their library
book in their mailbag by Wednesday.
4. Website please keep checking out our website
with your child to see all the fun that has been
happening in our room!
5. Lunches please ask your child if they are
having enough in their lunch. There seems to be a
lot having nothing for their second nutrition break.
6. Just a quick thank you to our volunteers we
think you are all amazing and appreciate the time
you are spending with us!
