INTRODUCTION
We were given a task to find latest information about the usage of computer as tool, tutor
and tutee. We were asked to discuss in groups but the report has to be submitted individually. To
do the discussion, we prefer to use Google Docs which is easier than face-to-face meeting. Most
information are acquired by using search engine Google and the URLs are listed in reference part
below.

COMPUTER AS TOOL, TUTOR AND TUTEE

Computer as Tool

1. e-Education

Nowadays, the technologies can help the teachers as well as students in their teaching and
learning process by using many kind of latest learning program. E-education is a better and
simpler teaching process which can be applied by the teachers instead of conventional learning.
E-mail, e-meetings, e-expeditions, and the methodologies of a pedagogy known as e-learning are
the primary tools of e-education.

E-education can reduce the time to have face-to-face meeting between students and
lecturers as students can participate the learning process through e-mail, e-meetings, e-
expeditions and e-learning. This distance learning of course has its pros and cons but what more
prior is, it is convenient because no one needs to set a specific time or place for teacher-student
meetings.

E-meeting is the place where students can have discussion among themselves and also
with the lecturers. E-mail can be used to alert the students about the assignments given by
lecturers. On the other hand, e-expedition can be used to explore new things virtually in the
websites and the lecturers can guide the students during in-class session. Last but not least, e-
learning is the learning environment that has to be created by the students themselves not in the
class but online learning environment.

Next, students also stand the chance to take online courses through this system. Some
universities do not offer the courses like French Language and Distance Education so students
can take the courses online. The perks of taking online courses they offer a wide variety of
courses in any field and enable students to cross borders of nationality, race, religion and others.
This emphasises the role of computer in a new way of learning as in computer as a tool.

2. Computer as a medium of education in the modern systems

People nowadays put high expectations that computers will be a technology that have a
better, more comfortable and faster ways of learning which will give a great impact to the Y-
generations since they are born in the era of technologies and gadgets. Computer are so
important for education process because of its unique abilities which can store a large amount of
data, quick information processing and by using computers, less papers will be used.

Computer teaching plays an important role in the modern systems of education.
Computer helps the students to lesser their books to bring as computer can store the information
needed. Students do not have to open heavy, thick reference books but they can just access the
Internet to find more information which is way easier, efficient and enjoyable. Notes and
information can be stored easily compared to hand-written notes. Everything is just at our
fingertips.

Nowadays, we are able to do distance learning where time for lectures in class can be
reduced but the students will be given quizzes and lectures online. This online education can be
very interesting to the students as they can learn everywhere because sometimes students start to
feeling bored when the lecture takes too much time. The modern ways of education are actually
fits the lifestyle of people in 21st century.

In conclusion, computers have lifted up some burden in education industry and
computers give new colours in the learning process. It provides a better environment for study
and also changed the way we work. It is quite challenging to do revolutions and the beginning
always the hardest part. Eventually, everyone will adapt and get used with it.

Computer as Tutor

1. Computer-based instruction for teaching autism spectrum disorder (ASD)

Firstly, computer-based instruction is widely used in schools, universities and training
centres to increase students academic performance. To teach students with ASD, the instructors
need to use different kind of approaches and by using computers, they can stimulate different
responses when the students use the computers.

Students with ASD will have more interest when computer-based instruction is used
compared to direct learning. This is because they usually do not like to socialize with people but
they will love to work with this kind of approaches. They might also love it because of the visual
and sound that can catch their attention. They will be more excited to learn as the teaching
method used is different and might be new to them compared to printed papers.

Some of the students may not have the skills or knowledge to use computer but they can
learn about it from the teachers or parents. Otherwise, teachers or instructors can create
instructional videos to guide the students when they have to do any educational task as videos
will be more interesting to watch and they can watch the videos for many times. This shows that
computer is used to reinforce learning through practices.

As the conclusion, computer-based instructor can help students with ASD in various
aspects. The computer tutor has flexible way to test and lead the students as it can be presented
to accommodate a wide range of student differences. That is why some studies show positive
results when computer-based instruction is applied to those with autism spectrum disorder.

Computer As Tutee
1. AutoCAD
Computer functioned as tutee means the students or teachers have to learn to program so that
they can tutor the computer. Computer can be programmed to enable users to construct or
manufacture equipment. One example of computer as tutee is AutoCAD which is a computer-
aided drafting software program.
AutoCAD is a 2D and 3D software application that help the drafters usually engineers and
architects to design buildings, products or public spaces without having to draw up plans by
hand. It is widely used in architecture, construction and manufacturing to assist in the preparation
of blueprints and other engineering plans. Mechanical drafting, architectural drafting, civil
drafting, electrical drafting, electronics drafting and aeronautical drafting are the six most
common specialization areas of the professionals who referred as drafters.
AutoCAD is also a software that uses function keys on keyboard starting from F1 until F12
to enhance the productivity of the end users. For example, F2 enables or activates the text
window showing the previous command line activity or command history. The users must first
study the operating systems to facilitate the operation of controlling the computer. To conclude,
computer functioned as tutee is where the users can give instructions or command to facilitate
program and AutoCAD is one of them.
