Miss Albright's Class News: September 19, 2014

Anna Beth Chapman was named star student for the week of September 15-19 for demonstrating courage. The upcoming week's character trait will be creativity. Several announcements were made, including signing and returning progress reports, upcoming pep rallies and runs, a first grade performance, and a fall book fair. In the classroom, students will begin a new reading unit and learn phonics skills, use commas correctly in writing, learn addition strategies in math through counting on, doubles, and making ten, and continue a science unit on plants by planting and observing seed growth.

Announcements:
Please sign and return your
childs progress report
ASAP.
The DRES Rocket Run pep
rally will be on Friday,
September 26

at 1:15.
The DRES Rocket Run will
be on Friday, October 3
rd
.
First grade students will
perform at the next PTO
meeting on Monday,
October 6
th
at 6:00 pm.
The fall book fair will be held
the week of October 6-10.
Parent Conference Day is
Monday, October 20
th
.
There will be no school for
students.


A Peek at Our Week

Reading/Language Arts: This week we will be
begin unit two in our Wonders reading series.
Our phonics skill for this week is short e (bet,
leg, red). In writing we are learning to use
commas correctly in sentences.

Math: We will begin Chapter 3: Addition
Strategies in our math textbook. The
strategies we will learn are counting on,
doubles, doubles + 1, and making ten. We are
also learning new math games to practice using
these strategies.

Science: This week we are continuing our unit
on plants. We will learn about how plants grow
and what they need to survive. We will plant
grain seeds and observe them as they grow.
