Dear Students,
1. On 1231 Moodle page, there is a link A Summary of 1131 Algebra under the section
Algebra Component. Please click on it and download the summary. I extracted all the
denitions and theorems etc. from the MATH1131 Algebra notes for your reference.
You should browse through the document and make sure you know and remember all
the materials in it.
In the folder Dr. Chi Maks notes, you can nd the following.
2. Three exercises: Set, Matrices and Gaussian Elimination, and High School Probability
and Statistics are in the sub-folder Revision Exercises. The les names are Exer-
cise Sets.pdf, Exercise Matrices.pdf, and Exercise Prob Stat.pdf. These exercise
are for revision purposes. You should attempt the rst two as soon as possible, because
they are relevant to Chapter 6. For the third one, you need to do it before the start of
Chapter 9.
3. The le Gaussian Elimination.pdf is the slides for an example on reducing a matrix to
row-echelon form by Gaussian Elimination for revision purpose.
4. Lecture notes: the le names will be Chapter # **.pdf. Please down the relevant le,
print a hard copy and take it to the lecture. For example, you are expected to bring
a hard copy of Chapter 6 lecture notes to the rst few lectures. The solutions to the
examples will be worked out in the lectures.
5. Answers to the examples discussed in lectures during a certain week will be uploaded
to Moodle during the weekend of that week.
