Structure of Nephron

The nephron is the basic functional unit of the kidney that filters blood to form urine. Each kidney contains around 1.2 million nephrons, each consisting of a glomerulus for blood filtration, Bowman's capsule that collects the filtrate, a renal tubule where reabsorption and secretion occurs, and a collecting duct that collects the urine and empties it into the pelvis.

kidney
Each kidney has about twelve lakhs of
Nephrons
NEPHRON consist of....
GLOMERULUS
BOWMANS CAPSULE
RENAL TUBULE
COLLECTING DUCT
NEPHRON
Glomerulus
It is a bundle of threads inside the kidney
This bundle is called glomerulus
Minute pores are present on its wall, which
help ultra filtration
Bowmans capsule
It is a double walled cup like structure around
glomerulus
It helps to collect glomerulus filtrate as a
result of ultra filtration

Renal tubule
It connect bowmans capsule and collecting
duct
Here reabsorption takes place
Elimination of certain material takes place
Collecting duct
Urine is collected from the nephron
It opens out into the pelvis
