Most TV reality shows have a competition component.

For example, on Survivor, the winner


gets one million dollars. On American Idol, the winner gets a contract to produce an alum.
One o! my !avourite reality television shows is the "achelor. The "achelor is aout a very
success!ul man who#s loo$ing !or a wi!e. The show chronicles his %ourney to !ind love. The
show starts with &' single women and the man pic$s women o!! until he is le!t with %ust one
woman. At the end o! the show, he gets down on one $nee and proposes marriage to the one
woman le!t.
(owever not all reality television shows have a competition component, some shows simply
!ollow the lives o! people !or some period o! time, then the video !ootage is edited to create
story lines. Some popular reality shows that have no competition component are )*eeping up
with the *ardashians#, )The Osornes# or )the +eal ,orld#.
Sometimes the line etween reality and television is lurred. For example one extremely
popular reality television show on MTV, )The (ills# revealed that it was not real at all ut
heavily edited with characters who were told what to say and how to act.
