This document provides instructions for creating a pivot table and chart from a dataset. It explains how to drag variables into different areas of the pivot table to group them as independent or dependent variables. It also describes how to right click and change settings to display averages and standard deviations rather than counts. Finally, it recommends making a single large pivot table rather than multiple smaller ones by continually adding variables to the left and right boxes.

CLICK Data, which gets us a MENU with PIVOT TABLE and PIVOT CHART REPORT, which gets you the BOX, below Click NEXT and keep doing so, until you get a FINISH
When you do the last FINISH, then this PIVOT TABLE pops up on a new Sheet. You then start dragging VARIABLES into the DROP ROW (for independents), and DROP DATA ITEMS (for dependents) This is how the PIVOT TABLE changes when youve dragged and dropped Activity into this space. When you drag and drop Systolic into the DROP DATA ITEMS box, it automatically drops in COUNTS of SYSTOLIC (here, 64 measurements). We need to change COUNTS to AVERAGE
You RIGHT CLICK the Count of Systolic and a box opens and then you CLICK FIELD SETTINGS (not shown), and the box below opens up. Here you change Count to Average and you get the result below. Now drop Systolic into the DATA BOX again, and you will see another Count of Systolic pop in there. You change this to StdDev by RIGHT CLICKING on Count of Systolic and resetting that to StdDev
To re-arrange this table to make it easier to use (especially to make charts), DRAG and DROP the Data label over to Total. To make charts (COLUMN or BAR) click on the Chart Wizard and youll get an instant chart on a new sheet (or in the one with your data).
Finally, rather than making a dozen or more of these specific PIVOT TABLES, you can make just one giant one, by continually putting dependent variables in the far RIGHT box and independent variables in the far LEFT box.
