Editing Wiki Pages: Wikitext Asterisk Bulleted List HTML Cascading Style Sheets Javascript

Wikis allow users with editing permissions to structure and format pages using a simplified markup language. This wikitext uses conventions like starting lines with asterisks to create bulleted lists. Wikis favor plain text editing with fewer tags than HTML, to indicate style and formatting simply. Limiting access to HTML and CSS promotes consistency in wikis' appearance and formatting, while disabling JavaScript prevents users from implementing code that could restrict other users' access.

Editing wiki pages

Some wikis have an "edit" button or link directly on the page being viewed, if the user
has permission to edit the page. This leads to an editing page which allows participants to
structure and format wiki pages with a simplified markup language, sometimes known as
wikitext (for example, starting a line of text with an asterisk often sets up a bulleted list).
The style and syntax of wikitexts can vary greatly among wiki implementations,

some of which also allow "T#$ tags. %ikis favour plain&text editing, with fewer
and simpler conventions than "T#$, for indicating style and structure. 'lthough limiting
access to "T#$ and (ascading Style Sheets ((SS) of wikis limits user ability to alter the
structure and formatting of wiki content, there are some benefits. $imited access to (SS
promotes consistency in the look and feel, and having )avaScript disabled prevents a user
from implementing code that may limit other users* access.
