This document discusses blueprint reading for bridge construction, noting that each bridge presents unique challenges and it is important for constructors to study drawing sets to avoid costly errors. It describes a case study bridge overpass project with 24 pages of drawings including plans, sections, details and schedules. The objectives are to interpret bridge abbreviations and symbols, recognize materials from patterns, understand drawing techniques, and use the set to find construction information, with the 12 lessons in the module estimated to take 6 to 8.5 hours to complete.

Blueprint Reading for Bridge Construction
Bridge construction is a specialized field in the construction industry. Each bridge is
unique, presenting a variety of challenges to the designing engineer and construction crews. It is very important that the constructor study the drawing sets to avoid making costly errors.
The bridge chosen for our case study is an overpass. The case study includes the approaching ramps, abutments, piers, deck and roadbed. The 24 pages of drawings in the study include plan drawings, longitudinal section drawings, cross section drawings, details, various schedules and notes, as well as applicable standard drawings to describe the bridge.
Module Learning Objectives After completing this module, you will be able to: - Interpret the abbreviations and equations used to describe bridge components. - Recognize materials and objects from their patterns and symbols. - Recognize the drawing techniques used to give construction information and methods. - Use a drawing set to look up and deduce information about constructing a bridge.
To help you schedule your time, each of the 12 lessons in this module will take approximately 30 minutes to complete. The module, including the final test, should take between 6 and 8.5 hours to finish.
