Combination

This document discusses combinations and provides examples of combination problems. Combinations refer to arrangements of objects without regard to order. The formula nCr = n!/(r!(n-r)!) is given to calculate the number of combinations of r objects from a collection of n objects. Several word problems are then solved as examples, including calculating the number of triangles that can be drawn from 6 points on a circle, the number of ways to choose a king, queen, and court from 7 boys and 7 girls, and the number of possible poker hands consisting of different card combinations.

b. How many different hands are
there consisting of three aces and
two kings?
Solution:
for three aces: 4C3 = 4
for two kings : 4C2 = 6
Using FCP, we have,
4C3 4C3 = (4)(6) = 24

c. How many different hands are
there consisting of 2 red cards,
2 spades and a queen?
Solution:
for 2 red cards: 26C2 = 325
for 2 spades: 13C2 = 78
for a queen: 4C1 = 4
Using FCP,
(26C2)(13C2 )(4C1) = (325)(78)(4) = 101 400
