Karen finds herself kidnapped and chained in a dark cellar alongside Melanie, who has been imprisoned there for around two weeks. Melanie warns Karen that their captor periodically takes the other imprisoned women away, and they are never seen again. Karen struggles against her restraints in an attempt to escape, but Melanie begs her to stop for fear of angering their captor. It is then revealed that Melanie has been cooperating with their captor in order to survive, as she knocks Karen unconscious with a club.

"THE CELLAR"

Characters: Melanie, 20+
Karen, 20+
Synopsis: Karen finds herself kidnapped, blindfolded, and tied to a post in a cellar. She hears
a stranger's voice. It's Melanie who has been there awhile.
INT. CELLAR NIGHT Darkness is all around except for one light. MELANIE, lies
chained against a wall. She has a hood over her head, so she cannot see. Another woman,
Karen is chained to the opposite wall.
KAREN tries to listen to her surroundings, when she hears Melanie whimpering in the
background.
MELANIE Help me. Please someone help me.
KAREN Hello? Who are you? What are we doing here?
Melanie continues to cry in the background. Karen waits for a minute for Melanie to settle
down.
KAREN My name is Karen. Whats yours?
MELANIE Melanie.
KAREN Melanie, how long have you been here?
MELANIE I dont know. Maybe 2 weeks.
KAREN (at a loss for words) 2 weeks? What? How? What does he want?
MELANIE I dont know. He never speaks. He just brings us food and water twice a day.
KAREN Us? There are more people here?
MELANIE There were. Since I have been here, there were two more girls that have come and
gone. When he takes them out, all I can hear is them screaming. Then it stops.
Karen realizes what this means.
KAREN We have to get out of here. There has to be a way...
MELANIE (interrupting) Dont bother. I have tried everything. Its no use to...
They hear sounds coming from outside of the room. Both girls stiffen at the sound. They
begin to talk again but only in a whisper.
KAREN Why do you think you are still here?
Melanie begins to slightly sob again.
MELANIE I dont know... I guess he wants them first. Maybe Im no good.
KAREN Dont say that. We will find away out of this. I promise.
MELANIE Dont try anything stupid. Thats why the last girl was taken out.
Karen struggles at her restraints. Another loud SOUND comes
from outside. Karen quits struggling for a second. Once the sound subsides, she continues to
struggle. The more she struggles the tighter the restraints get. She becomes more and more
nervous.
KAREN (more to herself) If I can just ...Please ...I almost ...Come on...
Melanie hears her struggling against her restraints.
MELANIE Please stop. Dont make him mad.
KAREN (still struggling) Im so close ...Dammit, please ...I just need to... Im so close...
Melanie becomes more panicked.
MELANIE Stop it! Hes going to find out!
KAREN Shut up! I am almost there... I just need to...
Suddenly, Melanie pulls her hands out from behind her back. She pulls her hood off, and
quietly makes her way over to Karen. Karen is too busy trying to get her restraints off to
notice. Melanie gets close enough to whisper. She has a look thats a mixture of sadness and
remorse.
MELANIE (whispering) You wanted to know how I lasted for so long?
Karen stiffens at the closeness of Melanies voice.
MELANIE Because I do what he says.
Melanie grabs a large club and blind-sides Karen across the head knocking her out. Melanie
goes back over to her spot. She looks up the stairs towards the door and calls out.
MELANIE Shes out! Can I have my water now?
