Assignment No.2 Nano

This document outlines 4 assignments for a nanotechnology course. It provides details on calculating the surface area of spherical and cubic nanoparticles on a surface, determining the closest distance between gold atoms and gold density using properties of FCC gold, deriving a formula for energy, and calculating the total surface area of a substrate covered with zinc oxide nanorods based on data provided about their dimensions and distribution.

2 for Nanotechnology
Date: 5-6-14, Dead line:10-6-14
1- Find the surface area of the 10nm diameter hemi spherical
nanoparticles covering a 60m x 100m large would the surface area
be smaller or larger for a cube of dimension 10nm if it covered the
whole area neck to neck? By what percentage?

2- Metallic gold crystallizes in FCC lattice. The length of the cubic
unit is 4.07

A. Calculate the closest distance between gold atoms
and the density of gold. Atomic mass = 197amu.

4- From Figure below, it is estimated that the total number of ZnO
nanorods present in 255m

area is approximately 150 and the
average diameter of the ZnO nanorods is 150nm. The average
length of the ZnO nanorods is estimated as 10m. Assuming all
the ZnO are standing perpendicularly maintaining an equal
distance from each other, calculate the total surface area of the
substrate of 1cmx1cm in size using the above given data. What is
the additional area contributed by the ZnO nanorods? [[Keeping in
view the hexagonal structure, cant apply cylindrical formula]]
