Unit 1: Pre-Production Techniques- P1/M1/D1 - Understand

requirements for a specific media production.

Making film is a lot of process in the media industry. They are every expensive to make. In
the film industry they have to find a provider and distributors which can invest in the film.
Having the package in the media industry I every important. Pre-production refers to the
tasks that must be executed before filming or shooting begins. This includes tasks such as
hiring actors, building sets, budgeting, planning, scheduling, renting equipment and
tests. The development in pre-production is very vital a success film has to take. It includes
identity the potential production project that you might be involved.
For example attack the block had a very high budget for not a popular film. Film also
receives money from the channel and private investor. In this research I will generate idea
for short film, making a successful film is the aim and goal .pre-production is will be very
keys to my short film. I identify will to have the same budget and famous actor has an
professional film , but is very important to relate them .

Film Finances helps film get to the big screen. The over-budget costs would not be the
financier's responsibility. Finance is a big part of the pre production for a reason it measure
the financial viability of the production. There are types of financed in the media industry
but there is two main aspect. For example advertising, sale, sponsorship and lots more. The
second aspects is material, transport, crew , cost and lots more .

Furthermore a short film budget will be lower than a long film budget. It will have little cast
and crew .You will need a crew and that will cost some money each individual would need
to get paid somehow because of their job roles, also the talent and material. Every
individual in your team will need to get paid. thiss will not be the case for me because I
dont have to pay anyone and my budget is very low. all the cost and equipment are the
colleges priority but obviously in a real working state I need to consider these things as I go
along.
There are different salary which can be earn by the people in the film/television industry.
Camera crew and equipment- 5,100
Employees working in the office (researchers, runner shredder etc.)- 1,900
Location fees - 1,800
lighting equipment - 1,100
sound equipment - 700
shooting tape stock- 400
online master stock - 80
dubbing stock-80
graphics - 1,500

Moreover, I will not able to pay this or afford it. This can be compared to attack the block
one again. It had a low budget film, but a film like amazing Spiderman need so much money
in order to produces it all together $230 million was the budget needed in the film. Amazing
spider man probably This is a gigantic different between the two film. It got money from the
channel like channel four, also it had a private investor , for example CGI (computer
generated imagery )Attack the block had funding from the BFI. BFI are use to give film
making grant. They are different types of way to get funding, which is link to finance. For
example an sponsorship. An example of that is phones 4u, nokialumia ,mccian wedges .
using credit card , and product placement and private investor . Having a private investor
will be the best option in my opinion, for reason that it easier to get money from the bank.
In this case you will know exact amount of how much you might need to pay back if you get
into some kind of debt; even though you have a wild budget you can use, be aware that you
need to know you cant spend the money inappropriately and not have some kind of clear
idea in what you could do with the money. Having an resulted that show an idea what you
could do with your budget. you could know what to do with if you lose money or getting
more profit.

In my situation, I will not be able to get a private investor or product placement because it is
a college project. , you need to be aware of the things that might be a limitation, knowing
that its only a short film factors may vary. I need to know how much I will be able to spend
in my short film. .

1. Time
Write about why time is so important to a production include deadlines,
availability of equipment etc. Research timescales for the production of a short film
(from pre-production to actually filming) clearances and include this.

The time use in the pre-production is very important . You have to know the timescale that
you can film you wont have an unlimited time period so you need to find out how much
time you will be able to film in that area and how long it will last. This is very important for
reason that it may get you in trouble , specially film in busy area . Sometimes you need to
know then availability of the people that are in your crew also the equipment that you are
required to use all of these will need to be assessed somehow. And with the deadlines, as a
producer you need to manage the way where thing might have a deadline; for example
some of the equipment needs to be handed back in to the college. in some occasion it is
every significant and important that you now then availability of the people that are in your
crew also the equipment that you are necessary and needed to use all of these will need to
be review somehow . the film will also have a dead line, as the producer need to manage
the way where thing might have a deadline .for example some of the equipment required
need to be handed back to the teacher in the college . Meanwhile if the equipment is
owned by you, the timescales and deadline will not be included.

For example of avatar movies took up to 13 year to make it, the development started in
1997 and the film was release in 2009. The producer in this film probably brought the
equipment by himself , which meant he didnt need any dead line .the most important part
of this film it generate lots of money .

Personnel
Write about why matching skills and experience is so important. Write about the different
types of job roles that you researched in film. Research some of the salaries of different job
roles. Write about different ways you could recruit a team for a film resourcing.

Having a successful film contain having an successful cast and crew. Cast and crew needed
to have great skills and experiences in their job roles. You need to find out the type of
people who are suitable for the job role. People who dont have the desire and ambition
cant be hire ,because they wouldnt take the job seriously; but if you pick someone who
is well-mannered and skilled enough for the job then your film will be looking good
because you have experienced people in the crew. Experience worker are very keys , With
the experience of it you will find people who have certain characters that match up to your
standards and because they specialize in that area of work they are the prime candidate for
the job role. The more experience you have in an specific areas , the film will improve and
be successful .

I believe my preferred job role will be a film director, for reason that I have the creativity
and the direction to be a film director. To get the job as a film director I will need to give out
their CVs to places that are a good way to get out there and employ potential employees, I
would plan the way I recruit people to work for me. For example I have listed the kind of
people I will recruit.

Hold auditions for cast and crews who are willing to take the lead (which will contain the
CVs- They have to look well presented, and I can see what type of skills they have to
acquire the occupation
World Wide Web I can post advertisements and sort out a scheme for people to read,
via Facebook, Twitter, Hotmail, BBM, and Forums etc.
The average director earns about 200,000 a year, film director may earn less if it freelance
job. Film director have skill of a Coaching actors and directing them towards the necessary
performances. Make-Up- This can vary a lot because they can earn about 400 to 900
pound. The talent in the film will have an specific make up crew. He/she will be employ as a
fix term base. Editor-They usually earn up to 30,000 for their material. Editor probably be a
fix term base, it important that he will has experience in this area and have creativity. A
producer is every key to post production; producers dont earn a thing until the produced
product has been finalized. After the film is finalized It will earn to 60,00 to 80,000 for a year
.

2. Facilities
Talk about the different types of facilities you would need for a short film. Mention
the production equipment and post-production equipment you would use.
Research typical facility houses, post production houses and outsourcing costs for
filming and include this.

The facilities will required a lots of material, it involve the use of production equipment and
facilities to capture record edit and types of raw material. Things like equipment like
cameras and audio needs to be included with the setting sheet; also half of the things we
need will probably be in a studio, because everything you need will be in the studio;
features like final cut pro and pro tools can be used to edit things in the film itself post
production is the basis of different cameras that we could use mostly. The computer
software is very important to the post production. Facility houses provide features such as
the video production and the sound and video post productions facilities . Facility houses
provide features such as the video production and the sound & video post productions
facilities and not forgetting training. They provide potential clients to use their facilities for
their films that they have in mind, because they have loads of opportunities that most other
places wouldnt have they do make sure they get a lump sum from the fee paid, after all
they are offering people who have good ideas I mind and are lacking the post-production
from it.

Materials
Explain what materials for a film would be, include archive or library or photo-library
materials, sound, audio, script etc.. Talk about the costs involved (found through research).
Talk about clearances for material (you could mention the Charlie Brookerprogramme).
Mention some of the materials you will need for you film costume, music, script, audio
etc.

In the media industry it require raw material, some of raw material has to be provide by
you. Recording and test shoots will help you develop any raw material you have. This
increase the production stage . the material that has been given to you , has a time limit .
materials like audio from setting might be of use as well; for example there are times where
you need to find out how long an area or the settlement might be available for. Getting a
reasonable destination and then filming you will come across so many problems, so for
instance if you want to film in a park but you know that there will be a lot of children
running about making so much noise. Finding an different a destination is best option .
recoding audio in the studio has be part of the material needed in a film . you have to be
able to book the studio , get the actor/talent you need . the time in the studio will have a
time limit.

Having the prefect sound, getting the specific sound is very important, you may have to
change destination just for this. The sound will set the toned in the film . the costume may
be provide by you , you may need it from the place you gather different ranges of clothing
and product . Successful film have image, which is include the film for reason a fundamental
aspect if you want to portray certain features in a film. Photo library is images from
contributing photographers to an ever fluctuating client base. All of them are now
internet-based, selling images either from digital cameras. So therefore a photo-library will
be introduced into the film these materials can be taken from other existing places in the
world, however sometimes producers have be careful of the copyright law that exists and
states that you cant portray existing products that are out there. Library is very significant
for reason it get you secondary research ,getting you more information which could be
needed . Getting other public fact and opinions can also be needed as well. This can result
to having a better film and developing the film to suit an specific target audience.
Furthermore, the music will also be inquired, it can be producer by someone you know, or
music which has been release already. What has to been through about is how the music
will affect the film your about to make. Music cannot be used in unnecessary area , for
example a loud music cannot be used in a sad and depress scene . The script is an source of
material needed in your film and preproduction. The actor/talent need to know what is
going to be said in the film , they need to know their line . the script is the main thing thats
going to be said in the film accordingly every character will have their lines and they need to
be clear and it need to relate to how their character is always portrayed in the film. The
script will be the decide the way the actor/talent are going to act like in the film . the script
will role the decide the role of the character , this major point of the production of a film .
the script will outline how good/bad a film is . the script can be copyright from a different
film or company .

3. Contributors
Mention the type of contributors you would need for your short film, eg actors
(talent) or extras. Mention that as you are making a film you will need actors but if
you were making a TV programme you might need experts or the public etc. Explain
that all contributors need to sign a release form and include an example (found
online or copied from the book).

There are different types of contributors, for example you might need a voice over from
different actors than you have already. A contribution is anyone who submits information
for display on the site. There is a huge variety of data that can be added, such as a new Title
(i.e. Movies, TV shows, Video Games), Names (actors, writers and film crew. numerous
other categories such as directors, producers, trivia, goofs, soundtracks, quotes, release
dates. The production team is very keys to this, they are key to making the film successful.

The production team always has to be around; because they are important to the team .
The voice over will contain the talent voices, the film will appear more to the audience. In
order to make your film look professional; the a specific voice cane be appealing the target
audience . an example of this is everybody hate Chris ,the voice over in this case is like a
narrator. Chris rock is the voice over , the genre of the show is comedy . Chris rock is an
comedians; is voice will appeal more to the target audience. Chris rock is voice represent
the main character who is also called Chris . Another example a TV programmed or a TV
show . I will need to get an audience, so it will look like a TV show. I would need experts and
the public reason being is because some TV programs have live sessions and talk shows with
the public as a main outlet on the show; and with the experts they usually tell the facts an
statistics of the situation depending on the type of the show for example the some shows
where the producer introduces the means of a lie detector you will need to have a experts
and professionals to work the equipment. But in order for all of this work is to get the actual
permission from the people who you want to include in your film, even people who are
actually quoted in the film to prove the significance of the person. The audience in your
show have to write up a permission letter, so they can be shown.

its good to include proper experts to make your film look really complete, this way you will
be recognized as a good producer. You also need the film as well, they can help with the
atmospheric background of the film as well, and they usually help with the way the story
can go as well. Me as a film director I will need talent. Atmospheric background of the film
will appear more to the target audience. In order to make your film look professional as well
its good to include proper experts to make your film look really complete, this way you will
be recognized as a good individual/producer. You also need extras within the film as well,
they can help with the atmospheric background of the film as well, and they usually help
with the way the story can go as well. Every contributor need to get permission; form any
talent or the production team who are featured in your film. This has to been sign and
consent agreement form so that you have documentary evidence.

4. Locations
Explain how you would need to identify and recce locations before you started filming.
Talk about limitations (i.e noise, distance, cost, weather etc) and risks such as health
and safety.

Having the right location is very important, it has been appropriate to the pre-production.
This will save the time for the pre-production and money if needed. The location has to have
recce, it might get you in trouble. The location has to be examining, before you decide to
film there. its a pre visit to the destination that you think you will film different clips and
shooting but also to find out the suitability of the area as well this may include things like
the using necessary facilities and encountering any sound or lighting equipment . This way
you will be experience enough to know that half of the destinations you go to. I need to be
aware of the obstacles that might invade my path, for example the rightful permission to be
in a certain area this way you will know that youre invading the spaces of some of the
people that are in it.before filming a movie you have a recce of the place; meaning knowing
the past is safe.

Furthermore, you have to check if the location is suitable, it has to heath and safe for your
production team, which imply taking the production team to unnecessary area. They might
not film conformable if they dont feel safe. This may also resulted to a decrease of
preformed. The weather has be suitable for the film, the weather will create the type of
setting you have in your film. the weather might disturb the shooting schedule ; it might
affect the way you film and the outcome of it as well and to mention the cost to get too the
destination as well because usually you will need you pay for everyone to reach to their
endpoint.

5. Codes of practice and regulation.
A) Regulation - Explain who regulates the film industry the BBFC. Explain what they do
and how they are funded. Briefly give some case study examples (i.e Human Centipede
or Lovely Bones). Compare film with how TV is regulated (Ofcom)

Companies look that the pre-production work to make sure that the product is relevant of
practice law and regulation. Legal issues are involved in it, for example the times where
health and safety, the permission of people to be included in the film that you might be
producing also the way you would need to find out the safety condition so of the locations
that you might be filming on. The copyright material is also a legal issue, getting permission
from the people who may appear in my film. Getting people permission is every important;
an example of this is filming in a park and there is a considerably amount of people in the
park then you need to find out any risks that might go towards to your production of the
film, so having the capability to make sure that no one gets hurt is extremely important, due
to the fact that there will be production activities that are in motion. However if you was a
student that is going to film a potential production they already have public liability. Legal
issues are involved in it, for example the times where health and safety, the permission of
people to be included in the film that you might be producing also the way you would need
to find out the safety condition so of the locations that you might be filming on. And that
where public liability is introduced in the frame, mainly because the way you might film
different scenes in a certain location that you have planned out. So for example you want
to film in a park and there is a considerably amount of people in the park then you need to
find out any risks that might go towards to your production of the film, so having the
capability to make sure that no one gets hurt is extremely important, due to the fact that
there will be production activities that are in motion.

Another legal requirement is public liability; they have to check by the companies and
organization in the media industry. This may require a public location, where the public may
be risk from the production. Before you film in any location of the public, getting permission
from the public. They are funded by the film industry and are pretty much responsible for
the national classification of films within the United Kingdom; they just make sure that the
films that everyone watches in the UK are rated, with different ratings in order of age
usually they review the film and judge it by the content within the film itself, for example
you are watching a film where there is strong language, strong bloody violence and mature
themes; without hesitation they will rate this as an 18 and thats how they sometimes rate
the films that are currently new in the movie industry.
One of companies that check for code of practice and regulation is bbfc. The bbfc are
around so they are order to protect children from unsuitable and even harmful content in
films and videos and to give consumers information they might need about a particular film
or video before deciding whether or not to view it, the BBFC examines and age rates films
and videos before they are released.

Example of code of practice was show on Human Centipede II horror, BBFC says there
would be a real risk of harm to viewers" if the Human Centipede II was released. The Human
Centipede 2 wasnt even rated at first due to its revolting content in the film and was
banned in the United Kingdom, but eventually after 32 cuts in the film, they eventually rated
the film and gave it permission to be viewed in the UK with an 18 certificate. So you can see
the influence the public have in film they have as group to stop films being viewed due to
the content it might have. Any disturbing scene that the audience cant handle; has to
review and look at.

Ofcom
Ofcome are the UK has a wide range of electronic communications services, including high-
speed services such as broadband. Ofcome is about the broadcasting, telecommunication
and postal industries of the United Kingdom. They give different service to their customer.
in OFCOM is very different from BBFC because they are more security than anything else,
they make sure that telecommunications are stable and that nothing wrong would happen
whilst in the preparation with it. They have an license that we can watch on TV just to make
sure its legal and the requirements are suitable, because their duty is to make sure that the
complaints from viewers are reviewed and analyzed with precise detail, and because it
might be a broadcast that OFCOM that might have right to they need to examine that way
its been criticized. , in comparison to the BBFC they are different because they are more
security than anything else; they make sure that the telecommunications are stable and that
nothing wrong would happen whilst in the preparation with it.
