The document discusses the Internet of Things (IoT). [1] It was first coined by Kevin Ashton in 1999 to refer to uniquely identifiable objects and their virtual representations in an Internet-like structure. [2] IoT combines technological connectivity with human demand for increased connectivity to everything happening nearby and farther away. [3] Key challenges to IoT adoption include scalability, short-range communication, data volumes, and security/privacy concerns.
