4. The process of persuasion, compromise, consensus building and negotiation contribute to the
resolution of conflicts and differences.
7. Constitutional government in the United States has changed over time as a result of
amendments to the US Constitution, Supreme Court decisions, legislation, and informal
practices.
14. Law and public policy are created and implemented by three branches of government; each
functions with its own set of powers and responsibilities.
15. The political process creates a dynamic interaction among the three branches of
government in addressing current issues.

Objectives
SWBAT: design/create their own version of a bill within a group
SWBAT: identify a current problem in America
SWBAT: defend their bill as a way to fix that problem.

Materials/Resources
Notecards
AppleTV
Projector
Teacher iPad
Sample bill up on whiteboard
Create own Bill packet
Writing Utensils
Instructional Procedures
Upon student entry, teacher will have the bellringer posted. 5 Minutes.
Ask the students to write down on the notecard, one step of the bill to law
process they arent sure of or dont understand.
Teacher will take attendance.
Teacher will pass out Create own Bill packet while students are filling out their
notecard.
Teacher will then collect notecards and analyze them after school.
Teacher will then explain the directions step-by-step on the Create own Bill packet.
Teacher will then show the students the example presented up on the board as a
guideline.
Teacher will allow the students to pick their own group of no more than 3 to allow
students to begin work on creating their own bill. This will take the remainder of the
class. 30 Minutes.
Teacher will remind students they have a quick quiz tomorrow.

Teacher will then do a quick review for the last 5 minutes of class with the
students to help them prepare.
