Independent Reading Project

You will select a book to read for independently for the next 4 weeks. Make sure you choose a book that is not too hard, but is still challenging. If you need help choosing a book, please ask! Class time will be given for reading and log, but you will also be expected to do some work at home. There are three parts to this project: 1. Daily Reading Log (5 points): This component will be ongoing during the three weeks. In this reading log, you will record the time you read and answer brief questions on your reading. Time will be given in class to work on this. Anything not finished should be completed at home. 2. Glossary (5 points): During your reading you will come across words that you may not know. Record these words (on the sheet provided) and look them up in a dictionary. This is an on-going activity during the project. By the end, you should have a list of 8-10 words. 3. Tic-Tac-Toe Choice Board (3 x 30 points): During this project, there will be three assignments to complete from the tic-tac-toe choice board. All assignments must be completed by the end of the project. It would be smart to set a goal to complete one assignment a week. When you have it finished, please pass it in to me. Have fun and be creative! ! !

Happy reading! !!

Write a short explanation defending your book jacket and how it would interest readers. Pretend that you can spend a day with one of the characters. Which character would you choose? Why? What would you do? Write and/or illustrate this experience. Create an advertisement for your book. This could be a poster, radio broadcast, movie trailer, etc. Write a different beginning to your book. Explain how this different beginning will change the course of the characters journey.

Present a role-play or dramatic reading from a scene in your book. Include a copy of your script.

Write 2 diary entries that one of the characters may have written during the time of your story.

Free Choice Options: Here are some free choice ideas for your individual reading project. Feel free to come up with your own options. Please talk to me if you have any questions or more ideas! Design a Facebook page for a main character of your story (on paper, not online see template). Update your status and pictures to represent scenes and challenges the character faces in the book.
