Uploaded 5 April Due Monday 26 April (1 Lecture After The Midterm Break)

This document contains instructions for three assignment questions regarding signal constellations and communication systems. Students are asked to: 1) Analyze four signal constellations shown in a figure, defining decision regions and boundaries, calculating average transmitted energy, and finding an equivalent minimum energy set of messages. 2) Analyze a communication system transmitting one of four messages defined by four signals, expressing the signals in terms of basis functions, sketching the signals, and calculating average transmitted energy. 3) Define new basis functions aligned with the decision boundaries to express the four signals with minimum energy.

Assignment (3) Question (1)

Q2. For each of the four signal constellations in S.S. shown in Figure (1) Define the D.Rs and D.Bs Calculate the average transmitted energy. Find an equivalent set of messages with the same probability of error but with minimum average energy. Calculate the minimum average probability of error if the noise is assumed to be AWGN with zero mean and two- sided PSD= Suggest an implementation for the Receiver.

Q3- A communication system transmits one of four equally-likely

messages defined by:

S1 (t ) = 4 cos(2f1t ) + 3 cos(2f 2t ) S3 (t ) = 7 cos(2f1t ) + 6 cos(2f 2t ) Signal duration =T= 2Sec

S2 (t ) = 6 cos(2f1t ) + cos(2f 2t ) S4 (t ) = 9 cos(2f1t ) + 4 cos(2f 2t ) f1 = 125.125Hz f 2 = 225.125Hz

Define the used basis functions. Express the four signals in terms of the defined basis functions. Sketch to scale the signals in S.S and define the D.Bs & D.Rs. Calculate the average transmitted energy. Find an equivalent set of messages with the same probability of error but with minimum energy and calculate the minimum average energy. Define new basis functions to be used, such that their directions are the same as the D.Bs and then express the four signals in terms of the new basis functions.
