Ms. Boney Class: 601/Math CCSS 5.NF.B7, 6.NS.C.6a Learning Objectives: Student(s) will Be able to identify the three types of fractions. Be able to determine the parts of a fraction. Be able to define the three types of fractions. Be introduced to recognize opposite signs of numbers on the number line.

Guiding Question: How do can we determine where fractions are placed on the number line? Motivation/Activate Prior Knowledge: Student will engage in activities as a group and individually. The students will come to the Smart board and explain their answer. Teacher and students will engage in shared reading & classroom discussion. Opening Activity: Do Now is placed on the board, students will brainstorm from the prompt giving on the board. Students will give their definition and examples of the three prompts of fractions. Class will discuss students response to the prompts. Smartboard will display a diagram giving examples of each fraction. Class will discuss as a whole. Task: Students will begin note taking, writing down the definition of each fraction. Task: Class will read aloud page 63 in textbook. Students will discuss the negative and positive numbers on the number line. Students will come up to the board and place numbers given on the number line. Task: Students will write in their journals. Assessment: Observe students engagement and understanding. Journal writing Accommodations: Students will do a read aloud, and lesson is projected on the smartboard. Fractions were reviewed for lower achieving students.
