0.1 This Indian Standard (Part 1) ( First Revision )

was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on 2.5 August 1388, after the draft finalized by the Power Cables Sectional Committee had been approved by the Electrotechnical Division Council. 0.2 This standard was originally published in 1981. This revision has been brought out to take into account the experience gained since then. The opportunity has also been utilized to align the format of this specification with other specifications for different types of cables and to make reference to latest Indian Standards on

0.3 For the purpose of deciding whether a particular requirement of this st.andard is complied with, the final value, observed or calculated, expressing the result of a test or analysis, shall be rounded off in accordance with IS : 2-1960*. The number of significant places retained in the rounded off value should be the same as that of the specified value in this standard. *Rules for rounding off numerical values ( revised
).

SECTION 1. SCOPE

A-2.2.1 In order to ensure the randomness of selection, procedure given in IS : 49051968* may be followed.

a consignment, the cables of the same under essentially similar size manufactured conditions of production shall be grouped together to constitute a lot. A-2. SCALE OF SAMPLING A-2.1 Samples shall be taken and tested from each lot for ascertaining the conformity of the lot to the requirements of the specification. A-2.2 The number of samples to be selected shall depend on co1 1 and 2 as indicated below. These samples shall be taken at random: No. of Drums/Coils/
Reels in the Lot No. qf Drums/ Coils/Reels to be Taken as Sample (n) (2) 3 Permissible No. of Defectives I:; 0

A-3. NUMBER OF TESTS AND CRITERION FOR CONFORMITY A-3.1 Suitable lengths oftest samples shall be taken from each of the drums selected. These test samples shall be subiected to each of the acceptance tests ( see 21.2 ). A test sample is called defective if it fails in any one of the acceptance tests. If the number of defectives is. less than or equal to the corresponding permissible number given in co1 3 under A-2.2, the lot shall be declared as conforming to the requirements of acceptance tests; otherwise not.

FLEXING TEST FOR CORDS FOR USE WITH ELECTRIC

IRONS

B-l The part of the iron comprising the cable entry fitted with the cord guard and the flexible cable or cord for which the iron is designed, is fixed to the oscillating member of an apparatus similar to that shown in Fig. 1. B-2 The sample is to the outer surface when the oscillating cable or cord, where so mounted that the axis of oscillation is tangential of the part in which the cord guard is secured, and member is at the middle of its travel, the axis of the it leaves the cord guard, is vertical.

B-3 A load having a mass equal to that of the iron but not less than 2 kg or more than 6 kg is attached to the cable or cord. 1

B-4 The oscillating member is moved backwards and forwards through an angle of 90 ( 45 on either side of the vertical ), number of ffexings, the sample is turned through 90 about the centre line of the cord guard. B-5 After the test, the cord guard shall not have worked loose and neither the cord guard nor the flexible cable or cord shall show any damage within the meaning of this specification except that and give then 10 percent of the total number of conductor strands may have been broken. NOTE - A flexing is one movement
either backward or forward.
