Adding Reaction Set: - Select Reactions Tab - Add Reaction. Specify The Reaction Type

The document discusses different types of reactors that can be used in chemical processes, including conversion, kinetic, Gibbs, and equilibrium reactors. It provides examples of specifying reactions and reaction conditions for each type. Conversion reactors perform mass balances based on stoichiometry or conversion. Kinetic reactors can model concentration and temperature profiles over time. Gibbs reactors determine compositions at Gibbs free energy minimum without reaction stoichiometry. Equilibrium reactors compute chemical and phase equilibrium through reaction equations.

Adding Reaction Set

Select reactions tab Add reaction. Specify the reaction type, reactants ,product and reaction conditions according to reaction type. Add reaction set. Attach the created reaction to reaction set in active list Add set to Fluid Package.

Reaction Types
Conversion Reactions Equilibrium Reactions Kinetic Reactions Heterogeneous Reactions

Conversion Reactor
Performs mass balance calculations based on reaction stoichiometry (or conversion) and flashes the outlet stream Used when reactions kinetics are unknown or unimportant

Conversion Reaction
A stream of pure methane at 400 bar and 87 C and flowing at 32 kg/hr enters in a reactor, where it undergoes complete combustion. There is excess oxygen in the reactor and the conversion is 95%. The oxygen enters in at 1 atm, 25 C, and is in excess with the methane, so has a flow rate of 75 kg/hr.

Multiple Reactions
CH 4 0.5O 2 CO 2 H 2 CH 4 O 2 CO 2 2 H 2
1st reaction conversion= 40 2nd reaction conversion= 60

Kinetic Reactor
Styrene is made from the dehydrogenation of ethyl benzene. A = 4200, E=91000 KJ/Kmol Pure ethyl benzene at 152.2 gmol/s, 880 K, 1.378 bar Draw concentration, temperature profiles.

Gibbs Reactor
Gibbs free energy minimization is done to determine the product composition at which the Gibbs free energy of the products is at a minimum Do not require reactions stoichiometry

Gibbs Reactor
A feed containing 3 kg/mol-hr Ethane enters a Gibbs reactor at 1 atm and 350C and is to be cracked into ethene and hydrogen. Find equilibrium compositions at outlet and effect of temperature on outlet equilibrium composition.

Equilibrium Reactor
Computes combined chemical and phase equilibrium by solving reaction equilibrium equations Useful when there are many components, a few known reactions, and when relatively few components take part in the reactions
