SC Academic Indicator(s): 5-2.4: identify the roles of organisms as they interact and depend on one another through food chains and food webs in an ecosystem, considering producers and consumers (herbivores, carnivores, and omnivores), decomposers (microorganisms, termites, worms, and fungi), predators, and prey, and parasites and host. Developmental Appropriateness or Cross-curricular connections: This lesson is appropriate for student learning because it is activating prior knowledge and giving them a deeper understanding of ecosystems and what to factors make up and ecosystem. The students touched on Ecosystems in the 4th grade, but didnt get the vocabulary; this lesson will introduce them to the vocabulary and functions of predator/prey and parasite/host. The second activity will be used a review to conclude the lesson. This lines up with the objective because it goes back over the material covered. This activity will give students an opportunity to get a better understanding of the lesson. This activity will close the lesson by leaving pictured in the minds of the students. This is a way for them to put a picture with the vocabulary. The technology used will be the Smartboard to display the pictures of the predator/prey and host/parasites The first activity; the t-chart will be used as a study tool for students. This will help will identifying the different factors associated with predators/ prey and parasites/hosts. This activity will get the students into what is going on. This will also help students get a visual of the lesson. Students who have need of visual examples will be well accommodated with this activity. The technology used will be the Smartboard to display the workbook pages. This will be used because the students do not have their workbooks yet.
