CEDAR: WERE IN IT TO LEARN!

This newsletter marks the start of December and the final stretch of first semester. I hope you each received a report card for first term, and your academic goals are being met, or within reach for the second term. I encourage each of you to contact your teacher(s) counselor or an administrator if you would like to discuss progress to date. November proved to be another very busy month, and a very successful one for many of our students and school programs. I want to congratulate the senior girls' volleyball team for another great season and a trip to the Provincial Championships. Thank you to all the coaches and volunteers that helped make the fall season so successful. Congratulations also to Ms. Barnums talented performing arts group for their run of Sister Many Ignatius Explains It All For You. I want to thank parents for submitting their School Preference forms to the office by November 22nd. I know that this was a very difficult process for many of you, and I am glad that so many took the time to ask questions related to the transition. We will continue to work with your child(ren) to try and ensure a smooth process and maintain a positive classroom learning environment throughout the year at Cedar. If you have additional questions, please do not hesitate to call or email me. Wishing you all a safe and relaxing holiday. Sincerely, Chad Lintott Principal

Inclement Weather and School Closures!

It is that time of year again, when the School District would like to remind parents about school closure procedures. The most common reasons that schools might be closed are dangerous road conditions due to a heavy snowfall or ice. If you are wondering if schools are open on a particular day, for the most current updates listen to local radio stations (WAVE 102.3 FM and WOLF 106.9 FM) in the mornings. We also attempt to put an announcement of any school closure on the school district website, www.sd68.bc.ca, and on Twitter and Facebook, but our ability to do so could be affected by such things a power outages and technical issues. If there is no announcement on the website or social media, please be sure to listen to local radio stations. We would like to remind parents that it is their right to make the final decision as to whether it is safe for their children to travel to school on any given day. While the district strives to make the best decision possible for students across the district, there many be circumstances in your neighbourhood that lead you to decide to keep your children home, even though schools are open.

PAC News
The PAC wishes to thank families for their contribution to the Easy Peasy Fundraising Campaign. This is still ongoing and if you would still like to contribute there are forms in the office.. The Easy Peazy Fundraiser is an alternative to ongoing PAC fundraising efforts being undertaken which would require additional time and money from families. We request $20 per student, however we do not wish to create hardship for families with multiple students. Therefore, we appreciate any and all contributions' made. The PAC is also looking for student volunteers for Woodbank Primarys Craft Night on December 6th between 4:30 and 7:30 pm. Students may contact Ms. Barnum if they can help out . The next PAC meeting will be in the new year on January 23, 2014 in the library at 6:30 pm.
