Ip Rating PDF

The IP rating system provides a standardized means of classifying the degrees of protection electrical equipment provides against solids like dust and liquids like water. It is recognized across most of Europe and uses a three digit system, with the first two digits indicating protection against solids and liquids respectively and an optional third digit for mechanical protection. Higher numbers indicate stronger protection, such as a rating of IP65 protecting against dust entry and powerful water jets from any direction.

index of protection (IP Rating)

The IP rating system provides a means of determining the degree of protection against dust, water and impact afforded by electrical equipment and enclosures. The system is recognised in most European countries (IEC529, BS EN 60529: 1992) Details are also given for a third figure which, while not specified in many British Standards, it is used in most corresponding international standards.
