The goal of this part of your introduction is to: Get your readers attention/interest in your general topic (this is often called a hook) Introduce the BIG IDEAS of your topic State the author and title, if youre writing about a text; book titles are underlined; titles of magazine articles, short stories, poems, movies, etc. are placed between quotation marks
