Tweed Correction

This document provides guidelines for correcting headplate position using tweezer measurements. It recommends setting the Frankfurt mandibular incisal angle (FMIA) to 68 degrees for functional mandibular incisal angles (FMA) between 21-29 degrees, 65 degrees for FMA over 30 degrees, and not allowing the intermaxillary plane angle (IMPA) to exceed 92 degrees for FMA under 20 degrees. It also describes a method for calculating arch length discrepancy by measuring the difference between the patient's and desired FMIA lines at the occlusal plane, and multiplying that difference by 2, or alternatively subtracting the actual from proposed FMIA and multiplying the difference by 0.8.

Tweed headplate correction

Guidelines
For FMA 21-29 FMIA should be = 68 For FMA > 30 FMIA should be = 65 For FMA < 20 IMPA should not exceed 92

F-H plane B A

Occlusal plane

A = Patients FMIA B = Desired FMIA C = Difference between two lines measured at occlusal plane C is multiplied by 2 for arch length discrepancy calculation on both side

However instead of measurement at occlusal plane between two lines , the actual FMIA was subtracted from proposed FMIA and this difference was multiplied by a constant (0.8) to give difference in millimeters.
