State variable representation of continuous-time and discrete-time systems; System Response and State Transition Matrix (STM); Applications of STM. Basic stability concept of linear systems, absolute stability criteria for continuous-time systems, relative stability, stability criteria for digital systems. Liapunov stability concepts applied to continuous and discrete-time systems. Fundamentals of Root Locus, construction of root loci, root contour diagram, time domain design using compensator networks. Interrelation between time and frequency response. Minimum phase and all pass functions. Bodes plot and relative stability considerations, computation of relative stability using Nyquist criterion, relative stability using Nichols chart. Design perspective in frequency domain. Configuration of digital control systems. Data acquisition and signal conversion. Pulse transfer function and Z-transfer function.
