Assignment Policy: All assignments must be completed in order for you to receive a grade in this class. For most graded homework assignments you will receive two grades: one will measure the content of your homework; the second grade will measure the timeliness with which it was handed in. This second grade will contribute to the Work Habits portion of your overall grade. Retake Policy: Students will be able to retake quizzes within two weeks of the initial assessment. Homework may also be redone within two weeks of the initial assignment. Written pieces may be rewritten as many times as the student desires during the quarter it is assigned. Unit tests and Exams may not be retaken. Absences: It is your responsibility to see me on the day after an absence in order to make up any missed work. Tests and quizzes may be made up before or after school or by appointment. You have two days following your return to make up tests and quizzes . FLEX Block time is the best time to make up work; work will not be made up during class time. Tardiness: Be punctual! If you must arrive late to class, make sure your passbook has been signed by a teacher or an administrator. If you arrive late to class without a pass you will be instructed to obtain a signature from the Attendance Office, which will result in a detention. Electronic Device Policy: Please review the Electronic Device Policy on page 16 of your Student Handbook/Planner for a full description of RHSs policies . Turn them off; put them away! If I see or hear any personal electronic devices being used in my classroom without permission I will confiscate the device and send it to the office. A parent/guardian must then pick up the device. Academic Integrity: Please refer to page 15 of the Student Handbook/Planner for a complete presentation of RHSs Academic Honesty Policy. Academic Dishonesty will not be tolerated in this class. This includes, but is not limited to, plagiarism, cheating, copying, and providing materials for other students to copy for a grade. Dont hesitate to ask for clarification if you are unsure whether or not an action may be characterized as Academically Honest. The penalty for Academic Dishonesty is a zero on the assignment and disciplinary action, and more than one incidence of plagiarism by a student will result in his/her loss of credit for the course.

English 2 Honors: Parents & Guardians

Dear Parents and Guardians, I look forward to working with you and your student during the 2013/2014 school year. I believe that a students education greatly benefits from a spirit of collaboration between parents, educators, and administrators, so please dont hesitate to contact me with your questions or concerns. In order to succeed in my class your student will need to be an active and conscientious member of our classroom community. Assignments throughout this semester will be designed to both prepare your student to participate in the next days class activities (such as group discussions) and to provide them with opportunities to practice new skills and ideas learned in previous classes. Thus, checking in with your student regarding his or her homework each night will only help him or her be better prepared for the next days class. Completing each assignment is mandatory for receiving a grade in this class; students who do not complete each assignment will receive an Incomplete until all work is handed in. I have created website, Mr. Berryhills English 2 Website, that will be updated daily. On the site you will find each nights homework, as well as additional files and information. If you have Internet access, this site will help you keep up to date on your students assignments and due dates. If you dont have Internet access and want information regarding homework and due dates, call me and Ill be happy to provide you with regular telephone updates. Thank you for your time and I look forward to meeting you at Parent/Teacher conferences.
