Disable Control Panel

This document provides instructions for disabling access to the Control Panel in Windows XP Pro using Group Policy and registry settings. It explains that setting the "NoControlPanel" registry value under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer to 1 will disable restrictions to the Control Panel. The policy is enforced by default after restarting for the changes to take effect.

If XP Pro, there are settings in Group Policy for Control Panel. Here's one... Start | Run | Type: gpedit.

msc | OK | Navigate to >>> User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Control Panel\ Prohibit access to the Control Panel [[Disables all Control Panel programs.]] This is what gets set by the policy above. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ Policies\Explorer Value Name: NoControlPanel Data Type: REG_DWORD Value Data: 0 or 1 0 = disable restriction 1 = enable restriction

Open your registry and find the key below. Create a new DWORD value, or modify the existing value called 'NoControlPanel' set the value to equal '1' to enable the restriction. Exit your registry, you may need to restart for the changes to take effect.
