(San Diego) Mayor Bob Filner wants the people of San Diego to know his recent trip to France was arranged and managed in accordance with all appropriate policies, procedures and regulations. It was conducted to help maintain positive international relationships that he had developed while in Congress which he can call upon to benefit several City projects. Initially, he was invited to speak at the Organization of Iranian-American Communities (OIAC) 2013 Annual Conference for Democracy. In addition, the Mayor also travelled to the City of Lille, France in the region of Nord Pas-de-Calais where he toured and was briefed on their internationally recognized energy and sustainability programs, which he would like to use as a model for our City. Building and maintaining these international relationships will support several of the Mayors most important priorities for San Diego, including increasing cargo imports that lead to goodpaying maritime jobs and his vision for an innovative energy and sustainability program. The costs for the OIAC trip totaled $31,363, of which nearly one-third the Mayors expenses were paid by OIAC.
