Mainstream media had less influence over public opinion during the 2010 UK general election on Twitter compared to other types of users. Lastly, we compare the mainstream media with other types of users in terms of social influence. Our analysis shows that mainstream media is still good at seeding prominent information cascades. However, individual journalists appear to be more effective information disseminator since tweets published by them are more likely to be retweeted and their tweets also spread faster and have longer life span compared to tweets from mainstream media.
