f4 c4 Heat Sum

The document discusses different aspects of heat, including heat capacity, specific heat capacity, latent heat, and gas laws. Heat capacity is the amount of heat needed to raise an object's temperature by 1°C and depends on temperature, mass, and material. Specific heat capacity is the heat needed to raise 1kg of a substance by 1°C. Latent heat is the heat absorbed or released during phase changes without a temperature change. Gas laws like Boyle's Law and Charles' Law describe the relationships between a gas's pressure, volume, and temperature.

Chapter 4: HEAT

Heat capacity
The heat capacity of a body is the amount of heat that must be supplied to the body to increase its temperature by 1C. The heat capacity of an object depends on the
Temperature of the body Mass of the body Type of material

specific heat capacity

The specific heat capacity of a substance is the amount of heat that must be supplied to increase the temperature by 1 C for a mass of 1 kg of the substance. Unit Jkg 1 C 1 High specific heat capacity absorb a large amount of heat with only a small temperature increase such as plastics.

Conversion of energy

latent heat
The heat absorbed or the heat released at constant temperature during a change of phase is known as latent heat. Q= ml

Specific latent heat of fusion quantity of the heat needed to change 1kg of solid to a liquid at its melting point without any increase in temperature. S.I unit: Jkg 1

Specific latent heat of vaporisation quantity of heat needed to change 1kg of liquid into gas or vapour of its boiling point without any change in temperature. S.I unit: Jkg 1

Gas Law
Boyles Law Boyles law states that for a fixed mass of gas, the pressure of the gas is inversely proportional to its volume when the temperature is kept constant. P1V1 = P2V2

Charles Law Charles law states that for a fixed mass of gas, the volume of the gas is directly proportional to its absolute temperature when its pressure is kept constant .

Pressure Law The pressure law states that for a fixed mass of gas, the pressure of the gas is directly proportional to its absolute temperature when its volume is kept constant.
