Kumpf Social studies 20 April 2013 Summary of our field study to the legion of America memorial During our time at the legions of America memorial we saw many things. For example we saw a tank that was used in the Korean War. We also saw a map of Korea that label the 38th parallel (border between North and South Korea). It also labels some important cities .We got many incites about the Korean War because one of our speakers served in the army at that time period. As we walked through the memorial we came through some bricks. The bricks represent soldiers that were killed in action during the Korean and Vietnam War, and also WWII. We also passed by an award that is given to wounded soldiers that award is named purple heart. The second to last thing that we saw was a missiles shooter that the U.S used in the air force. The final and last artifact that we saw was a helicopter and jet. The helicopter was used in both Korean and Vietnam War. The jet was a modern version still used today in the air force. Toward the end of our time at the legions of America memorial we heard from a man that sends packages to the soldiers in Afghanistan. This was very inspiring to me and my classmates. This field study relates to our expedition, because we gain knowledge of the Korean and Vietnam War. That is a positive thing because our expedition is related to these two wars. We also learned about the equipment used in both wars that could also come in handy. Because our speaker served in the army during the Korean War we got many incites about what it was like
during that time period. All of this information can be used when writing our essays that related to this topic and the information can also be used to create facts for a project; this field study is the beginning of our expedition. During the field study I was very interested about the facts that were giving to us about the Korean and Vietnam wars. When I saw the bricks that were given to soldiers I felt very proud because the soldiers protect us so it the right things to do when they pass away during battle, to honor, respect, and remember them, and that is the purpose of the brick. I also felt the same way when we passed by the purple heart award. I felt very inspired when I heard that one of our speakers send packages to Afghanistan I think that is very kind of him to do. At the end of the field study I left with feeling proud and inspired in both our speakers, for what they done to honor and help our protectors.
