Context: Intermediate ESL learners in a university general purpose speaking/listening course. Class meets 3x/week, 1 hour per class.

Politics and Controversial Issues: Day 1


Directions: For each question, write down a few short notes or ideas as well as reasons for your opinion. Be prepared to share your answers in a class discussion.

Day 5 Homework: Debate Preparation


Directions: 3 controversial issues are listed below, as well as a 4th blank. In the 4th space, come up with an issue that youre interested in. For each issue, make some quick notes about its pros and cons. Then write 2 paragraphs: one containing pros and one containing cons. In class on Friday, we will simulate a debate, using your ideas.
