Sense Organs Ear #12

The document summarizes a biology lesson about the ear presented to a 9th grade class of 21 students. The 1 hour and 10 minute lesson used lecture, discussion, and cooperative learning to help students understand the parts and functions of the human ear, including how humans hear and distinguishing pitch, amplitude, and quality of sound. The teacher presented slides on the ear and its structures, related structures to functions, and showed pictures of ear parts for students to identify and explain their functions. Both the teacher and students felt the lesson went well and successfully taught students about the ear.

Date: 117th January 2012 Subject: Biology Class: Grade 9 No.

of students: 21 Duration of lesson: 1hour 10 minutes Unit topic: Sense Organs Lesson Topic: The Ear Strategies: Lecture-Discussion, Direct Instruction, and Co-operative Learning General Objectives: Students should gain knowledge about the ear. Specific Objectives: From the slides shown, students should be able to: 1. Explain how humans ear 2. Distinguish between pitch, amplitude, and quality.

Previous Knowledge: Students are familiar with the eye. Summary of Content: The ear is the organ that detects sound. It not only receives sound, but also aids in balance and body position. The ear is part of the auditory system. The word "ear" may be used correctly to describe the entire organ or just the visible portion. In most mammals, the visible ear is a flap of tissue that is also called the pinna and is the first of many steps in hearing. In people, the pinna is often called the auricle. Vertebrates have a pair of ears, placed somewhat symmetrically on opposite sides of the head. This arrangement aids in the ability to localize sound sources. Instructional Materials: Computer, and Multimedia Projector. Procedure:

Step 1. (10 minutes) Teacher introduces the lesson and will lead a question and answer session to ascertain students knowledge of the ear Step 2. (50 minutes) Teacher will develop the lesson. Teacher show presentation on the ear. Teacher helps students to relate the special structure to special function of the different parts of the ear. Step 3. (10 minutes) Teacher will show different pictures of ear parts and relate them to their functions. Evaluation: Teacher: The class went according to plan. The lesson was delivered and received well. Student: Students were excited and interested in the lesson and all participated. Lesson: The lesson was good students were allowed to ask questions and were motivated to learn.
