Transitions: ENGLISH 0750 MARCH 2009

Transitions are words or phrases that connect ideas and help writing flow from one idea to the next. Transitions can be used between paragraphs to link back to the thesis or focus a paragraph through a topic sentence transition. Transitions are also used within paragraphs to move from a larger claim to specific details or connect examples to each other through internal transitions. Proper placement of transitions helps writing flow smoothly and guide the reader from one idea to the next.
