Dramatization 1 Reflection

The student reflected on their experience performing a role play of a scene from Much Ado About Nothing. They found it difficult as a beginner to memorize lines and understand certain phrases. This slowed their progression. They also felt very nervous performing in front of others, which made them forgetful, shy, and unable to focus on expression and body language. However, they gained confidence through the experience. Feedback from lecturers and classmates helped them identify weaknesses. Working as a team provided motivation and support to perform better. The student hopes to continue improving in future role plays.

PPISMP TESL SEM II ROLE PLAY REFLECTION

19/02/13

Recently, we were assigned to present role play on Much Ado About Nothing by William Shakespeare. Every group had to dramatize a specific scene from the drama. Dramatization is not easy for beginners like us since we are lacking of experience. Here some of the situations that I have gone through. Being a beginner means I had to learn more in this kind of thing and for me, it was a tough situation. One of the difficulties was memorising the script. Disability in understanding certain phrases had become a limitation for me to proceed any further even though it had been translated into modern English. I had no choice, but to spend more time correcting the same mistake such as pronunciation problem and looking for the meaning of new words found. As a result, this had slow down my progression. I also encountered with the very common thing that everyone usually experienced when standing in front of the crowd. It was something to do with nervousness. Nervous makes me a forgetful and shy person. My memory tends to lose all the data that had been installed inside and my face become thicker. That is why I cannot completely focus on the dramatization especially my expression, intonation and body movement. In the mean time, I also cannot avoid my eyes from staring at the script all the times. Despite of my trouble, there are also few positive things I have gained. First, I am able to build up my self confidence. Only someone who has the courage within their selves can reveal their quality and hidden talent as an actor. Next, I am able to identify my weaknesses which I do not even notice and realize from lecturers and my classmates. They gave me positive reviews, critics and comments. What most important is teamwork within the group. Giving commitment to the group is the motivating factor for a better result. Without my friends support, I will unable to perform at my best. In conclusion, there are much more areas which I need to learn and improve on. I hope, there will be improvement in the next coming role play. I am looking forward to see better performance from me and my cast.
