Assumed duties of assistant principal, including conducting teacher observations, facilitating professional development, and working with students and staff to promote academic achievement. Co-Chaired the Leadership Team and assisted in preparing agendas and leading monthly Leadership meetings. Established the Boys Read Book Club, an exploratory wheel designed to improve reading fluency and comprehension, and provide social support to students.

Planned and executed the Exceptional Children Professional Learning Community. Served as case manager for 33 students, wrote and maintained each students IEP and all other related paperwork. Maintained school-wide compliance according to state and federal guidelines which resulted in an increased compliance rate on the federal head count in April 2012.

Planned and implemented rigorous lessons for students with multiple low-incident disabilities in 6th, 7th and 8th grades. Named the 2010-11 Eaton-Johnson Middle Schools Teacher of the Year. Selected as one of 21 cohort members to participate in a highly selective school leader preparation program designed to develop 21st Century school leaders for rural, high-need schools in northeastern North Carolina. The program included a full academic scholarship, books, and a full-time paid administrative internship.

New and Aspiring School Leaders Harvard University

Selected and awarded a full scholarship to participate in a specially designed institute focused on the tools, frameworks and leadership techniques needed to build and sustain effective learning environments and maximize student achievement. The institute also included training on developing a vision for success, improving instruction through effective teacher supervision and evaluation, and creating community support for your school.
