What is the Arc of Kentucky?


The

Arc of Kentucky is an agency that promotes supports and services for those with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Who do they serve?

The Arc is a wonderful organization because they serve those of all ages, along with a wide range of intellectual and developmental disabilities (Autism, Down Syndrome, ect.) As well as being there for the individual person, it also serves their families by offering both support and information.

What does Arc do?


Teaches individuals self-advocacy skills Educates Kentucky communities of the dangers of drinking alcohol while pregnant (FAS and other birth-defects) Promotes and backs legislation that enhances the lives of those with disabilities Oversees the states progression towards inclusion within the communities

What does Arc do? (Cont.)


Assists and connects individuals with getting medical and life insurance that works best for their needs. Utilizes person first language and makes the public aware of the rights, needs, and abilities of those with intellect/developmental disabilities.

I AM DETERMINED Project

I AM DETERMINED project was created for high school students with IEPs to have a quality transition into adult life. The project puts forth a seven person team called an 'Interagency Transition Team to scan and interpret the current transitional program and process and uses MAPS as a tool to determine appropriate resources for the individual.

Advocates in Action
Teaches individuals with disabilities, their family, and the professionals working with people with disabilities to be a selfdetermined leader who can advocate in legislative policies. The program teaches these participants the latest news, knowledge, and law when it comes to issue in public policy concerning individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities.
