Summary Assignment

English 0750
Read the Summary of Findings section of the Pew Internet & American Life Project report
“Writing, Technology, and Teens” and write a one-paragraph summary of the text. In 100-200
words, capture the main idea of the text and the important supporting details. What did you learn
from the report, and what does this information mean to you? How does the information in this
report relate to your own experience with technology? What in the report surprised you or was
new to you?

I will grade your Summary on how clearly and accurately it discusses the main points of the
report. Focus on important information, not less important ideas. Present a clear, one-sentence
statement of the report’s purpose and audience, and use specific material from the report to
support your ideas. Conclude with a sense of how interesting, effective, and useful this section
of the report is to you.

We will hold a workshop in class on Monday, 9 February, to work on your Summary. Bring your
planning and drafting materials to class to draft and revise your work that day.

Your Summary will be written out on a computer word processing program and handed in as a
hard copy at the beginning of class on Wednesday, 11 February or emailed as an attachment to
[email protected] by 5 pm that same day. Graded Summaries will be returned in class on
Wednesday, 18 February. Revised work for a higher grade can then be submitted at anytime.
