Brainstorming—You as Applicant
• Describe the job you are applying for.
• What is the most important skill or trait needed
for this job?
• What is the single most important skill or trait
you bring to this job?
• What is the most significant hole in your
qualifications for this job?
Planning & Drafting—Résumé
• Take your main strength as an applicant and
place it high on the résumé
• Repeat with the next most important aspect of
your qualifications
• For each section on your résumé list the details
of your skills, work experience, education, etc.
• Experiment with various formats and layouts for
your résumé
Planning & Drafting—Cover Letter
• Read over your résumé and identify one aspect
of your experience or education you want to
discuss in the letter
• Write a paragraph discussing that element of
your qualifications
• Write an introduction and conclusion ot your
letter
