Essay 2

English 0950

Read the following readings from Models for Writers:

• “No More Pep Rallies” by Etta Kralovec, page 86
• “One Idea” by Norman Mailer, page 480
• “In Praise of the F Word” by Mary Sherry, page 510

Choose one of these readings and write an essay of at least 400 words that analyzes
how that text works. Explore how the author presents his/her argument and
organizes the essay. Refer to specific aspects of the text and cite language from the
essay to support your reading of that essay.

Begin your essay with a succinct summary of the reading, building to a clear thesis
that presents your analysis of how the text works. The body of your essay will
discuss specific aspects of the reading that you find important in terms of how the
author presents and supports a main idea. Then end your essay with a conclusion
that effectively wraps up and revisits your thesis, providing an overall evaluation
of the reading.
