Use Constants To Help You Think Through What Happens With Variables in The Following List of Questions

1. The document discusses operations with variables and exponents. 2. It states that when multiplying the same bases, the exponents are added. For example, x^3 x^2 = x^5. 3. It then asks a series of questions to test this rule and derive it, asking about dividing and raising to powers as well.

What do you get when you add x by x? 0 2. What do you get when you subtract x by x? x^2 3. What do you get when you multiply x by x? 1 4. What do you get when you divide x by x? x^3 5. What do you get when you multiply x by x by x? x^4 6. What about x by x by x by x by x? x^3 7. What do you get when you multiply x^2 by x? x^5 8. What about x^2 by x^3? x^10 9. What about x^4 by x^6? Come up with a rule that explains what happens when you multiply same bases. 10. When you multiply something that has the same base it becomes an exponent, or a larger exponent. Such as x^3 x^2= x^5

1 What do you get when you divide x by x? x^3 What do you get when you multiply x^2 by x? x^2 What about x^4 by x^2? x^2 What do you get when you divide x^5 by x^3? x^5 What about x^6 by x? Come up with a rule that explains what happens when you divide same bases. When you divide the same bases, I have found that subtracting the exponents works as dividing, I have tested it and it comes out to the same answers.

What do you get when you square x^3? X^9 What do you get when you square x^4? x^16 What do you get when you cube x^2? x^81 What do you get when you raise x^3 to the fourth power? It becomes x^12 What do you get when you raise x^2 to the fifth power? It becomes x^64 Come up with a rule that explains what happens when you raise a base with an exponent by an exponent. A rule that applies is that the exponent becomes a base, then you multiply it by the knew exponent, then put the new number over the original base.
