Mobile Number Portability or MNP

Mobile number portability (MNP) allows customers to switch mobile providers while retaining their existing number. A customer can port their number from GSM to CDMA networks or vice versa. To port to BSNL in Tamilnadu, customers send an SMS with their number to 1900 and will receive a unique porting code. They fill a porting form at a BSNL office along with proof of identity and their BSNL SIM will be activated within a week. Customers must wait 90 days between ports and can only port to providers available in Tamilnadu.

Mobile Number Portability or MNP

Mobile number portability is latest facility available in every network in India to transfer from one to other without changing the number. For example you can change from MTNL to BSNL without changing the number. Through this facility you can change from GSM to CDMA or CDMA to GSM. The advantage of MNP is you can remain in same number. Once you have done MNP then you have to wait for 3 months for another MNP. You can use this facility for every three months.

Mobile Number Portability for BSNL in Tamilnadu


Send SMS to 1900. Type Port space your mobile number and send it to 1900. For Example: Port 9056480100 to 1900 After you send this SMS you will receive auto generated 8 digits UPC from your existing network. The code consists of 2 alphabets at first and followed by six numbers. Fill the porting form that is available in BSNL office or local mobile shops. Then you have to submit your proof to BSNL office or local mobile shop. For post paid users you have to submit the copy of last bill. They will provide you BSNL new SIM card which will activated within one week. You will get an notification in your old SIM card as SIM card registration failed. After you should insert the SIM provided by BSNL. Now you can start using BSNL network without changing your number. This facility is done by BSNL for free. If any problem exist you can call to toll free number 1800-180-1503 or 1503 .

Conditions for MNP


1. Once you have done MNP you have to wait 90 days of activation from the date of last porting of your number for another MNP. 2. You can only port your number to existing service provider in Tamilnadu. The networks available in Tamilnadu are Airtel, Aircel, BSNL, Idea, Vodafone, Videocon, MTS, Reliance, Uninor, DOCOMO, Tata indicom. 3. For Post paid customer submitting of last bill is must. They should finish paying their bills to their respective service provider. 4. For pre paid user Keep your balance zero or low otherwise it will be wasted. You wont credited the old balance in your new sim. MNP is done by TRAI - Telecom Regulatory Authority of India. They follow the rules strictly.
